All terrain wheelchair access - opening up accessible trails in Las Vegas, Nevada

We're thrilled to share some fantastic news from our distributor, Spokes 'n Motion, who are based in Denver, Colorado in the USA - they were recently involved in a grant funding application towards adaptive equipment for a project in Las Vegas, which included 3 models of our all terrain wheelchairs.

Paul Speight, founder of Spokes 'n Motion has a passion for the outdoors and sport. Paul has been paraplegic since the age of 21 following a car accident, but this didn't stop him and Paul continued to participate in sailing, tennis, rugby and found a passion for sit-skiing - becoming captain of the New Zealand disabled ski-team at the 1988 Paralympics.

A move to Denver at the end of 1988 led to the opening of Spokes 'n Motion and collaborations saw him help with the development of revolutionary sit-down ski equipment. Over the years Spokes 'n Motion has grown and now offers a range of adaptive sports and recreational equipment and has been part of the Mountain Trike distributor network since 2015.

Paul's passion of bringing adaptive sports equipment to those less mobile so that they, too, can enjoy the great outdoors is highlighted through the current news.

Earlier this year Paul worked closely with the founder of the State of Nevada to Trail Access Project - a project whose goal is to facilitate the removal of barriers to recreational trail use. They were seeking funding through the Craig H. Neilson Foundation to work on a special grant funded project to create opportunity and independence by improving accessibility on trails around the Las Vegas area based in the state of Nevada. The grant would help individuals with spinal cord injuries get out on selected trails in structured, scheduled and announced events using the Mountain Trike and other adaptive equipment.

Craig H. Neilson Foundation is a foundation dedicated to improving the lives of those living with spinal cord injury and provide various funding routes to enable this to happen.

Following many months working on the grant funding project, Paul received the good news in October 2019 that the grant had been awarded for 3 Mountain Trike all terrain wheelchairs, a trailer for transporting the equipment and storage.

Following order confirmation from Paul, manufacturing soon got underway at MT HQ for a Mountain Trike all terrain lever drive wheelchair, an MT Evo, adaptive lever drive all terrain wheelchair for users with little or limited hand function and the eTrike - all terrain power assist wheelchair.

These all terrain wheelchairs are now stateside and are available for use to help individuals with disabilities, all their friends and family, participate in one of their events on the trails in and around Las Vegas, which is fantastic news!

For further information about the Mountain Trikes and to try out the products while participating in one of their events on the trails around Las Vegas, get in touch with the State of Nevada to Trail Access Project team, via the website here.
